Birthdays

Last night we celebrated Jeff's Grandfather's 80th Birthday.  His family had a surprise birthday party for him, and while we missed the surprise part of the party (it was in Wichita, so we were a little late getting there) it was still great to see everyone.  It was easy to tell that his Grandfather was very happy and thankful to see many family and friends.

It's easy to gripe about getting older and I've even found myself thinking about my birthday in February with a little bit of dread (I'll no longer be in my "early twenties"!)  but I feel like the above quote really puts things into perspective.  Not everyone will be able to live until their 80th birthday, or even their 26th birthday, so we need to remember that each and every day we are given on this earth is truly a blessing.  Let's use them wisely!

Silly boys
Even Ruby made the trip to Wichita  (I think she might need a haircut, don't you?!)

*  I apologize for the bad iphone pics.  We forgot the camera...again.

10 things...

In honor of our anniversary, I thought I would talk about 10 things I love about my Jeffrey.

10. I love that he always makes me laugh.

9. I love that he narrates what Ruby would say if she could talk. It's silly and makes me laugh.

8. I still love the way he walks ( it's still the same as when I used to watch him from the window of the Theta house as he walked back from class in college... Creepy)

7. I love how he can never find his shoes anywhere and always wanders around the house before we leave trying to find them

6. I love that the aforementioned shoes are always flip flops 9 months out of the year

5. I love how whenever we go on vacation anywhere he comes back wanting to move there. It reminds me that spontaneity is important

4. I love that he tries all of my culinary creations and tells me they are good, even if they aren't :)

3. I love that he puts up with all of my "machine gun kisses" all over his cheeks

2. I still love his slightly crooked smile

1. I love that for my anniversary present last night he gave me something "cheesy" and thoughtful instead of something "practical" (which is what he thinks makes the best presents)

I love him.  Here's to many more years of crooked smiles and cheesy presents!

It's been a year!!

Happy first anniversary to my lover boy!  I can't believe it's already been one year.  Time goes by so quickly.  We've had several life changes in the past year including the wife half starting graduate school and getting a new job.  I can't imagine what this year would have been like without my love.  I'm so grateful for him every day.

This was taken after we saw each other before the ceremony.  I made him a book of all of our cards and letters we had written over the past 4 years.

Productive

This weekend was a weekend to be productive.  It is our 1 year anniversary tomorrow and we had planned to go to the lake.  Instead, I wanted to stay home and get some things done around the house.  We've just been gone so often recently that we have lots to catch up on at home.  I'm so glad that we stayed home!  The weather was great, we got things done and were able to relax a little bit too.

I finalllllly planted some Fall flowers in the front flowerbed- sorry to all my neighbors who had to look at dead flowers for 2 months and then holes where they used to be, for another 2 weeks after that...

We went to the OU/KState game (I don't want to talk about it).  All I can say is what-the-what guys?!

And I ran lots of necessary Erins (that's what we call them around here, not errands).

Here are some pics from this weekend.

Pumpkin "doughnuts". I used this recipe (instead of using a doughnut pan I used a mini cakelette pan.  I think they look like little pumpkins, don't you?)

Swirls from The Mont in Norman. My fave.

It's Fall (officially)

I absolutely love the Fall. The leaves change, the weather gets a little crisper ( although, lets get real here- it's still 94 degrees here in Oklahomie) and I can't get enough of all the pumpkin decor. It also gives me an awesome excuse to get my favorite sbucks drank, a chai latte.  But if we are being honest, I have absolutely no qualms about getting one in the middle of summer... and I definitely do.

What are your Fall favorites? I can't wait to have some pumpkin bread (which I plan to make tonight!)

Happy Fall ya'll!

Tonight....

I locked myself out of the house tonight.  I mean, really..... who does that?  andddd with the stove on, no less!  At least Ruby was with me.  Nothing would have been more annoying than Ruby barking at me through the glass door, as I stood there watching the stove to make sure the house wasn't about to catch on fire.   Like I could have done anything if I did start spotting flames!  Silly me.

Valuable lessons learned on this one...

Hypothetical situation:  "Mom, why are you standing on the porch?  Why don't you just come inside already?!"

Busy Weekend

This weekend was a busy one!  Jeff and I stayed home on Friday night and hung out a bit.  I made fajitas and we watched this movie.  I thought it was awesome!  I can't believe I had never watched it before.

On Saturday, I drove down to Dallas for my friend Grace's bridal shower.  It was so good to see some of my Dallas friends, if only just for a little bit!

I drove back to Oklahoma after the shower in order to make it to my friend Erin's couples shower that night.  We had a blast celebrating our great friends at a beautiful home.  annnnddd.... have you guys ever heard of a Palapa?  Because I hadn't- but we had a blast at a "beach" and palapa in the middle of Oklahoma!  It was seriously, one of the best couple showers ever!  They even had the Big Truck Tacos truck there.  It was majorly yummy.

I put the camera away after the first hour, so iphone pics it is from here on out....

Isn't Erin's fiesta veil the cutest?

Wednesday Words (on Thursday)

One of my favorite verses is:

"Everyone to whom much was given of him, much will be required" - Luke 12:48

Reminds me that it's so important to count your blessings and give back to those who need some blessings the most.

Also, kind of reminds me of Spiderman "with much power comes great responsibility"... Which is kind of funny...

Boomer Sooner

My husband and I headed to Norman on Saturday for the OU vs. Florida A&M game.  We had a wonderful day!  It was the.best.weather.ever.  It was great to walk around campus and to see friends that we haven't seen in a while.  We didn't have tickets when we headed down for the game, but a friend gave us his extras so we were able to go.  It was a great win, great weather, and an overall splendid Saturday!

The Beach

Over Labor Day weekend Jeff, his family and I went to Myrtle Beach. We had a great time! Our nephews had never been to the beach, so it was fun to see them play in the sand and water. It was a short trip, but so nice to be out in the sun and sand. The downside to our trip.... we had to leave our Ruby at home. I really missed her and she would have had the best time playing on the beach, but our condo rental did not allow dogs and we hated to subject her to flying below with the bags. We thought for a split second maybe she would be small enough to fit in one of those doggy carriers, and then we could bring her on board. We did a little test to see if she would fit in one of those. She didn't even fit in a duffle bag, but what can you do.... I think she is just a few pounds over the weight limit. What do you think?
